Finding the Perfect Chef: A Culinary Challenge in the Cayman Islands
A Unique Culinary Brief
Some roles stretch us more than others—and this recent private chef placement in the Cayman Islands was one of the most intricate to date.
The household required a chef with advanced knowledge of Asian cuisine, specifically Malay and Thai dishes. At the same time, the family enjoyed classic American fare and was preparing for the arrival of a new baby. With a full domestic staff already in place, the environment demanded someone who could adapt with ease and lead with quiet professionalism.
A Truly Global Search
Candidates applied from Singapore, Thailand, China, and the Middle East. Coordinating interviews across multiple time zones—between the Cayman Islands, our London office, and various candidate locations—was a logistical challenge in itself. Adding to that, verifying references from previous employers across different languages and regions required extra diligence.
Over a three-month period, we carefully shortlisted three standout finalists.
A Perfect Fit
We were delighted to place a talented young gentleman with extensive global experience and a specialism in Chinese and Asian cuisine. He accepted the role at a tax-free salary of $180,000 per annum, along with beautifully appointed on-site accommodation.
“This was one of the most interesting placements I’ve worked on,” says Frances Atkinson, Managing Director of Hutchinsons.
“The culinary brief was wonderfully unique, and while the process was complex, it’s always rewarding to deliver exactly what a client needs.”
